Personal Response from this semester

In my writing, I have learned to produce a further thought out analysis and to write beyond what is assigned. After my first writing piece for this class, I have learned to make sure that I  fully explain the point I am attempting to create, but to also think critically and outside the box. Each assignment that I have been assigned after my first writing piece has caused me to reflect more in depth and to research to help to fully understand the topic. Writing in this class has also caused me to notice a connection I have learned or read about for each topic in order to develop an assignment that is more interesting and enjoyable to write about.

What I liked most about this English class was being able to hear everyone’s ideas during our Fishbowls, also known as Socratic Seminars, because it helped me to realize that there are so many other ways to think about and understand a certain topic. Every person has a different way of thinking and it makes the class more interesting to be able to learn from other perspectives. Another reason why I liked the Fishbowls a lot was because I am more of a listener than a speaker and I learn better by listening to others’ ideas instead of just hearing my own voice and opinions.

What I will take away from this class and apply to my life outside the classroom is stretching my thinking process in depth with ideas and analysis of a topic. Instead of just thinking and writing the basis of a topic, I will extend beyond my writing skills and make sure I am comfortable and knowledgeable about a topic to fully understand every aspect of it. In five years, I can see myself to be a very critical and extremely in depth thinker. I see myself exploring beyond my comfort zone and researching topics to grow more aware of what I will be writing about, so that I create more confidence in myself and also my writing.
